Black Bird Cider Works was founded in 2011 in Somerset, New York by Scott Donovan. Donovan had purchased an apple orchard five years prior, and quickly began refining his recipes for hard cider. After expanding into seven states throughout the 2010s, Donovan sold Black Bird Cider Works to Resurgence Brewing Company based out of Buffalo, New York in 2023, though he retained ownership of the orchards and Cider Hall.
