Florida Beer Company was founded in 2000 in Tampa, Florida by Humberto Perez. Perez was previously the president of CervecerÃa Regional in Venezuela, and in 1993 opened Ybor City Brewing Company. He added the Florida Beer brand in 2000, but sold both brands to Indian River Beverage Company in 2005, which promptly renamed to Florida Beer Company. That company, founded in 1997, was owned by Bruce and Duncan Holt, Jack Owen, James Nance, and Richard Bawey. In 2016, the company sold to Trinidad & Tobago’s Ansa McAL, which kept the Florida Beer brand until 2021 when they discontinued it in favor of their main brand, Carib Lager
