Kostritzer is a well-known German beer brand that was created sometime before 1543 in the city of Kostritz, located in the state of Thuringia, Germany. In 1696 it was taken over by the House of Reuss, but in 1948 it became state owned and was renamed to Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei. After the collapse of communism, the brewery was acquired by Bitburger Braugruppe in 1991.
