Laurentina beer was first brewed in 1932 in Lourenço Marques (now known as Maputo), Mozambique. The beer was created by a Greek immigrant named Cretikos, who founded the Victoria Ice and Water factory 16 years prior. The company was nationalized in 1980, and remained publicly owned until 1995, when it was sold to French brewing conglomerate Groupe Castel. In 2002, Castel sold Laurentina to Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM), which at the time was 49.1% owned by South African Breweries. Later that year, SAB purchased Miller and became SABMiller. In 2016, Anheuser-Busch InBev purchased SABMiller, and now owns 51.47% of CDM.
