Lucky Lager was created in 1934 in San Francisco, California by the General Brewing Company, founded by Eugene Selvage. At the same time, Lucky formed a strategic partnership with Coast Breweries in Vancouver, Canada, and granted them the Canadian rights to the product. In 1958, Coast Breweries was purchased by Labatt Brewery. In 1971, Paul Kalmonovitz purchased the General Brewing Company, and when he later purchased Pabst Brewing in 1985, Lucky became a subsidiary of Pabst. Meanwhile in Canada, Labatt was purchased by Interbrew in 1995, which later became InBev when it merged with AmBev in 2004. In 2008, InBev purchased Anheuser-Busch to become Anheuser-Busch InBev, which still produces Lucky in Canada. In the United States, Lucky was discontinued in the early 2000s, but it had a brief revival in San Francisco with production support for Pabst by 21st Amendment in 2019 and 2020.
