Cerveza Palma is a beer brand created by Bucanero LLC, a brewery founded in 1988 in Holguín, Cuba. In 2014, Anheuser-Busch InBev purchased a 50% stake in the brand, with the other 50% being owned by the Cuban Government. However, AB InBev (through their subsidiary AmBev) control the organization and elect the general manager. Because of US sanctions against the Cuban government, AB InBev has avoided trying to sell the beer within the United States. In 2015, they filed a trademark for the brand, but abandoned it in the following year. In 2018, a company going by the name of Soltura LLC began importing a strikingly similar product called Cerveza Palma, doing business as Bucanero USA, with the tagline, “La Preferida de Cuba” (“The Preference of Cuba”). However, the beer is made in Nicaragua by Compañía Cervecera de Nicaragua, and doesn’t appear to have any business relationship with Anheuser-Busch InBev.
