Super Bock beer was introduced by Companhia União Fabril Portuense das Fábricas de Cerveja e Bebidas Refrigerantes (also known as CUFP) in Matosinhos, Portugal in 1927. In 1977, CUFP renamed to Unicer, and in 1991 a majority interest of the company was purchased by Carlsberg Group. Carlsberg now owns about 60% of the Unicer corporations descendant, Super Bock Group, both directly with 44% and indirectly through a 28.5% interest in the holding corporation Viacer, which owns the other 56% of Super Bock Group.
