The Bruery brand of beer and cider was created in 2008 in Placentia, California. Established by Patrick Rue and his father Mike Rue, The Bruery quickly gained recognition for its innovative and experimental approach to brewing. In 2010, the company added a shop in the Old Town neighborhood of Orange called Bruery Provisions that sold cheese and charcuterie along with their beer, but closed it in 2013 – it has since reopened under the name Provisions. The company also markets beer under its “Terreux” brand, which it reserves for its barrel aged beers from its facility in Anaheim. In 2017, it added the Offshoot brand for its more mainstream, IPA focused beers.

That same year, the Rues sold a majority stake in The Bruery to Castanea Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in consumer products.
