Brasserie Timmermans was founded in Itterbeek, Belgium in 1781 by Hendrik Vanheyleweghen, though a brewery had existed in the same location since 1702. It was called De Mol until 1911, when the brewery was purchased by Frans Timmermans. In 1984, a majority stake was purchased by the tobaco company Rizla, which sold its stake to the John Martin beer company in 1993. The company was later renamed to Anthony Martin after its current owner, John Martin’s grandson Anthony.
