Walter’s Beer was introduced in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2009 by Northwoods Brewing Company. The name comes from a previous iteration of Walter’s Beer, which was founded in Eau Claire in 1889 by Johannes Walter, along with another brewery founded by his brother Martin Walter in Pueblo Colorado in 1898. The Pueblo version went out of business in 1975, and the trademark was bought by the Eau Claire version until that company went out of business in 1985.

Northwoods brought back the brand as a legacy brand in 2009, but four years later the The Walter Brewing Company created a similar beer in Pueblo.
