Tucher beer began in 1672 in Nuremberg, Germany, when the Städtische Weizenbräuhaus was built by the local patricians to brew wheat beer. The beer was initially brewed by two city officials, under the direction of the city’s “Inner Council.” In 1806, the brewery was taken over by the Kingdom of Bavaria, and continued as the Royal Bräuhaus, now brewing the more popular brown beer instead of wheat beer. It was then sold to the Dr. Lorenz Tucher Foundation in 1855, and renamed the Freiherrlich von Tucher’sche brewery. They instituted a steam engine in the brewery, and production began to accelerate rapidly, making Tucher the largest exporting brewery in the region.

Tucher went public in 1898, and in 1906 it merged with Nürnberger Aktienbrauerei. Then in 1966, it merged again with Brauhaus Nürnberg JG Reif to become Brau AG. The company was renamed Tucher Siechen, including Nürnberg’s most popular beer brand in the title.

In 1985, a majority of the shares were purchased by Rosenheimer März Group, who renamed the company Tucher Bräu AG. Hans Inselkammer took over a majority of the business in 1994 and took the company private. During this time the company installed a pipeline between its two properties, allowing the beer to flow uninterrupted from the brewery to its bottling center. In 2003 the company was sold to the company Brau und Brunnen, which was taken over the following year by the Radeberger brewing division of the Oetker conglomerate. In 2008, a new brewery was built on the border of Nuremburg and furth (literally – the border runs through the brewhouse). It now brews Tucher’s beer for Radeberger, as well as its Binding brand.
