Manayunk Brewing Company was founded in 1996 in Manayunk, Pennsylvania by Harry Renner IV. The company operates out of a former textile mill, established along the banks of the Manayunk Canal by Ann Dawson in 1822. In 1912 it was purchased by the Krook family, which operated it as a woolen mill until 1992. It was then sold to Renner, who spent years remodeling the space to make it habitable for retail business, as well as for the brewery.

In 2004, Renner’s daughter Swith Bell took over the company, along with her business partner Mike Rose. In 2014, Manayunk had to shut down for several weeks due to flooding from sustained rains, and again in 2021, the business suffered significant damages from Hurricane Ida. Following the renovations that were soon required, the company decided to cease brewing operations, and now exists solely as a restaurant and bar. The beers on its taplist are now produced by other breweries in the area.
