Roak Brewing Company was founded in 2015 in Royal Oak, Michigan by John Leonne. However, in 2020, after five years of operation, Roak Brewing decided to close its taproom and brewing facility in Royal Oak. This decision was part of a broader strategy to consolidate operations following their acquisition of Dark Horse Brewing Company the previous year. Roak planned to manufacture beers under its two labels from their Marshall location, over an hour west of Detroit.

The company’s leadership saw this as a strategic move to streamline operations and maximize the potential of both Roak and Dark Horse brands. Adam Lambert, with extensive experience in the brewing industry, joined Roak Brewing and Dark Horse as President.
