JuneShine is a popular hard kombucha brand that was created in 2018 in San Diego, California. It was founded by Greg Serrao and Forrest Dein. In 2021 they completed a series A funding round with investors like Diplo, Whitney Cummings, and YouTube star Cody Ko. The brand has taprooms in their hometown of San Diego, as well as in Santa Monica and Brooklyn, New York.
The company was rumored to be soliciting bids for a buy out in late 2023 of over $100 million, but Serrao later called those rumors “a bunch of bull shit.” That year, the company also released a new lager brand called Easy Rider. In early 2024, the company closed a seven figure Series C round, and shortly thereafter purchased Ojai-based Flying Embers Hard Kombucha. Prior to the sale, Flying Embers was described as being in a “distressed situation,” and the deal was made for stock in JuneShine. Flying Embers’ facility, located in Ventura, was not included in the transaction, but Dein has said that they intend to keep the Flying Embers label as its own brand for the time being.
