Islander Ginger Beer was founded in Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos in 2013 by Georgia Dunn. Dunn is a descendent of Thomas Harriott, an early colonizer of Turks and Caicos. While researching her family for a book, she discovered family recipes for ginger beer, which she began recreating in small batches. She founded the British West Indies Trading Company to expand her efforts, and later began contract brewing the beer with Thomas Creek Brewery in Greenville, South Carolina.
