Pivovar Primator was founded in Náchod, Czech Republic in 1872 by the city of Náchod. In 1951, the brewery was taken over by the state government, but it was privatized in 1993 as a joint-stock company owned by the city of Náchod. The city proposed a deal to sell the brewery to LIF Group, a Czech investment company, in 2008. The deal was completed in 2009, but was tied up in a court fight until 2020. The Czech Supreme Court finally approved the sale for 150 million crowns.
