Narragansett Brewing was created in the year 1890 in Cranston, Rhode Island by John H. Fehlberg, Augustus F. Borchandt, Herman G. Possner, George M. Gerhard, Constand A. Moeller, and Jacob Wirth. It was purchased by Falstaff Brewing Company in 1965 for $19 million in cash and stock. In 1975 it was purchased by billionaire investor Paul Kalmanovitz (one-time owner of Pabst Brewing). In 2005 it was again purchased by Mark D. Hellendrung and a group of investors, who revitalized the brand. It is now contract brewed by Genessee Brewing (owned by FIFCO).
