Session Beer was created as an offshoot of Full Sail Brewing Company in 2005 in Hood River, Oregon. At the time, the company was owned by its employees under an employee stock ownership plan. In 2015, the by-then 78 employees in the ownership plan voted to sell the company to Oregon Craft Brewers Co., the craft beer division of Encore Consumer Capital, a private equity firm based in San Francisco.
