Collective Arts Brewing Company was founded in 2013 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada by Matt Johnston and Bob Russell. They started the brewery with a focus on bringing visual arts into brewing, and feature artists’ artwork on their cans. Each year they host two calls for art submissions, which are then judged by a jury of fellow artists and media professionals for the opportunity to be on Collective Arts packaging.

In 2014, the brewery teamed up with Nickel Brook Brewing Company to lease the 50,000 square foot brewing space formerly occupied by Lakeport Brewing in Hamilton. The combined company was called Arts & Science Brewing Company, with each company brewing their own brands under the same space. However, in 2017 Nickel Brook moved to a new location in Niagara, and Collective Arts bought them out of their shares in the venture.
