Olde English beer was first introduced in 1948 as Olde English Ruff’s Stout by the People’s Brewing Company of Duluth, Minnesota. In 1964 it was rebranded Olde English 600. It was later sold to Bohemian Breweries, based out of Spokane, Washington, and then to Blitz-Weinhard of Portland, Oregon, where it was rebranded again to Olde English 800. In 1979, Blitz-Weinhard was sold to Pabst. The brand stayed with them until 1999, when Pabst sold Olde English to Miller, then a subsidiary of Philip Morris Companies Inc. Later in 2002, Miller came under the ownership of South African Breweries (SAB), which became known as SABMiller. In 2008, SABMiller and Molson Coors Brewing Company formed a joint operation in the united states called MillerCoors LLC. When SABMiller was purchased by Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2016, SABMiller’s stake in the joint venture was sold to Molson Coors to satisfy regulators.
