Origin

United States

Sharp’s Beer was created in 1989 by the Miller Brewing Company, which at the time was owned by Philip Morris Companies. Later in 2002, it came under the ownership of South African Breweries (SAB), which became known as SABMiller. In 2008, SABMiller and Molson Coors Brewing Company formed a joint operation in the united states called MillerCoors LLC. When SABMiller was purchased by Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2016, SABMiller’s stake in the joint venture was sold to Molson Coors to satisfy regulators.

A similarly named brewery was founded in the city of Rock, Cornwall by Bill Sharp in 1994. In 2011, it was sold to Molson Coors for £20 million, meaning both brands are now owned by the same company.
