Altstadt Brewery was founded in Fredericksburg, Texas in 2016 by father and son William and Bill Scripps. The two were descendents of E.W. Scripps, who had built a fortune on creating a chain of newspapers. The two were traveling through Europe when they realized that there were no great German style breweries in Texas, so they set out to make one.
