The Anderson Valley Brewing Company was created in 1987 in Booneville, California by David Norfleet and Kim and Ken Allen. They expanded to a bigger facility just a mile outside of downtown Booneville with a much larger 30 barrel brew system. An even bigger brewery completed construction in 2000, with two copper brewhouses rescued from German brewhouses five years earlier. The brewery’s beers use words from the local “Boontling” jargon for its branding, a local dialect in use in the Booneville area since the 1890s.

The original owners sold the brewery to Trey White in 2010, along with two silent partners. They held the business until 2019, when it was sold again to Kevin McGee and his family, including brother Michael McGee. Kevin, a former attorney at Jackson Family Wines, previously founded the Healdsburg Brewing Company in 2007, and now runs both breweries through his Mainsheet Capital corporation. He has instituted several changes at Anderson Valley, including switching distributors in Northern California, and improving the brewery’s taproom.
