Arbor Brewing Company was founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1995 by husband and wife Matt and Rene Greff. Brewpubs had been recently legalized in the state of Michigan, and the couple left their corporate jobs to pursue the enterprise and open Ann Arbor’s first brewpub. In 2006, they expanded to a second location in Ypsilanti, which they originally called Corner Brewery but now call Arbor Brewing Company – Corner Brewery.

In 2012, a University of Michigan student from India named Gaurav Sikka worked with the Greffs to open an outpost of Arbor Brewing in Bangalore when he returned home after graduation. Sikka had been a patron of Arbor in Michigan, and worked with the Greffs as consultants in starting the American-style craft brewery in India. He has since added a second location in Goa in 2018.

The Greffs sold Arbor to hospitality company Farm + Ferment in 2018, which owns several other restaurants in Michigan including Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina and Bacco Ristorante. The Greffs retained the rights to distribute Arbor beer in India under their holding company Greff Brewing Services LLC, while Farm + Ferment has North American distribution rights. They will share the brand rights throughout the rest of the world.
