Atwater Brewery was created in the year 1997 in the Rivertown neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. In 2002, real estate developer Mark Rieth invested in the company, and then purchased it outright in 2005. In 2020, he sold the brewery to Molson Coors. Rieth stayed on as President of Atwater until 2021, when he left the company. In 2024, Molson Coors sold Atwater along with three other brands to Tilray Brands.
