Austin Eastciders was created in 2013 in Austin, Texas by Ed Gibson, along with beer businessman Mark King. Gibson had previously owned a cider bar in Bristol, United Kingdom, where he discovered the growing interest in craft cider. He moved to Austin in 2011 with plans to start making cider. He found a facility in East Austin that was once a U.S. Foods Distributions Center, and moved there to take advantage of the ice cream cooler that was on site. By 2016, the company was the number one craft cider in the state of Texas.
In 2017, the company opened a tasting room they called the Austin Eastciders Collaboratory. In 2018, the company raised $4.5 million, and two years later, the company raised $5.7 million in equity funding from six investors, according to SEC filings. The timing of the filing aligned with their announcement that they would be launching a hard seltzer line. In 2019, the company announced plans to open a second tasting room in a location formerly occupied by Uncle Billy’s Brewery & Smokehouse. Those plans, however, did not materialize.
In 2023, the company announced that it was merging with Blake’s Hard Cider, which had previously purchased Avid Hard Cider, and that all three brands would fall under the new Blake’s Beverage Company. Austin Eastcider is now distributed in 22 states throughout the United States.
