Bayern Brewery was founded in 1987 in Missoula, Montana by Trudy Schulte, Reinhard Schultz, and Donald Gamer. Schulte was a German immigrant who was descended from a long line of Bavarian brewers, and built a bar and adjoining brewery in Montana. After the fall of the Berlin wall, Schulted moved back to East Germany, and sold the enterprise to master brewer Jürgen Knöller, who has been operating the brewery ever since.
