Berkshire Brewing Company was founded in 1994 in South Deerfield, Massachusetts by Gary Bogoff and Chris Lalli, along with several silent stockholders. Prior to starting the brewery, Bogoff was a cabinet maker and general contractor who homebrewed as a hobby. He has said that a goal of the brewery was to win over lager drinkers from brands like Budweiser and Miller.

Berkshire started off small in a former cigar factory, with the team hand bottling their 7 barrel batches. By 2017, it was brewing nearly 20,000 barrels a year. Lalli left the business a few years after it started, making Bogoff the main owner. The brewery is known for their Shabadoo beer, which was created in honor of a friend of Bogoff’s who was killed in a tragic accident. Proceeds from the beer benefit the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
