Big Grove Brewery was created in 2013 in the picturesque city of Solon, Iowa by Doug Goettsch, Faye Swift, and Matt Swift. In 2017, they expanded and opened up their taproom in Iowa City, which achieved a platinum green certification for its environmental architecture. In 2023, they announced the buildout of a new taproom in Cedar Rapids, and a new production facility in Iowa City. The brewery also makes hard seltzers, and had presented plans to make cannabis-infused seltzer products.

The brewery has also shown a commitment to environmental causes, and installed a carbon dioxide reclamation unit inside of their main brewery. The cost of the installation ran at about $165,000, and is expected to have a 5 to 7 year payback time period.
