Blake’s Hard Cider was created in 2013 by Andrew Blake in Armada, Michigan. The orchard that formed the basis of the cider had been in the Blake family for three generations, having been purchased by Andrew’s grandparents Gerald and Lovey Blake in 1946. Their twin sons Peter and Paul turned the orchard into a local attraction, and Andrew started the cidery a generation later. In 2017, they began brewing onsite with a brand they called Windfall Brewing Company, though the name was later changed to Blake’s Brewing Company. That same year, they doubled their production capacity with a $2 million facilities expansion. The company also added a second taproom location in Almont, Michigan, which they call Blake’s Backyard. That location features a greenhouse and nursery, as well as a market.

In 2022, Blake purchased Avid Cider, based out of Bend, Oregon, from founders Samantha Roberts and Dan McCoy. Avid had previously launched the hard seltzer brand Seven Peaks, which now also falls under the Blake’s umbrella. In 2023, Blake’s Hard Cider merged with Austin Eastciders, and the team announced that the new company would be called Blake’s Beverage Company.
