1851

Origin

Wisconsin, United States

Blatz beer was created in 1851 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Originally owned by Johann Braun, it was later sold to brothers Valentin and August Blatz, who expanded and popularized the brand. In 1958, Pabst acquired the brand, but the next year the sale was voided as an antitrust violation. The turmoil caused the Blatz company to fail, and the following year Pabst succeeded in acquiring the rights to the brand in the end. They operated the brand until 1969, when the brand was sold to G. Heileman Brewing. Heileman was acquired by Stroh Brewery in 1996, but the debt from the purchase caused the company to fail, and in 1999 they sold the brand once again to Pabst.
