Blue Point Brewery was created in 1998 in Patchogue, New York by Mark Burford and Pete Cotter. The two were homebrewers and saw an opportunity to meet the demand for microbreweries in Montauk and New York City.

By 2014, the beer was distributed in 19 states and was a top 50 craft brewer, at which point it was purchased by Anheuser-Busch InBev for $24 million. The brewery was the first in a string of craft beer brands to be purchased by AB InBev, followed quickly by 10 Barrel Brewing in November 2014 and Elysian Brewing the following January. However, the brewery failed to grow significantly in prominence after the purchase, and was sidelined by other brands in the Anheuser-Busch portfolio. In 2023, AB InBev sold the brand, along with 7 others including 10 Barrel, to Tilray Brands for a total of $83.4 million.
