Brooklyn Brewery was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1988 by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter. In 2016, Hindy and Potter sold a 24.5% stake in the business to Kirin, who continues to own a minority share. In 2020, Carlsberg purchased the rights to the Brooklyn brand in Europe and Hong Kong for $130 million.
