Buffalo Bayou, colloquially known as BuffBrew, is a beer brand created in 2011 by Rassul Zarinfar and Ryan Robertson in Houston, Texas. Zarinfar had had experience at a local beer distributor, as well as at Shipyard Brewing Company before starting BuffBrew. Robertson was hired as head brewer after working at a chain of brewpubs in Florida and then Uncle Buck’s Brewery & Steakhouse.

In 2017, the company raised $1 million on crowdfunding platform Nextseed (now known as Republic Local). The offering promised regular returns as part of a profit sharing plan, but in 2022 Buffalo Bayou defaulted on those payments. Later that year, financial services company Pimuro Capital Partners sued the company for non-payment of debts. The lawsuit shows that in 2022, WPM Capital partners, a private equity firm run by William McLucas, purchased Buffalo Bayou, with McLucas taken over as CEO.

In 2023, a separate lawsuit was filed by stakeholders alleging McLucas fraudulently acquired Buffalo Bayou without consulting or compensating shareholders. The suit notes that owners of the company were entitled to receive a maximum of $3,335 per share from the merger, but that the deal was closed without appropriate funds to pay them. McLucas, WPM Capital Partners, and several of the former company directors were all named as parties in the lawsuit. In 2024, the taproom’s landlord evicted Buffalo Bayou for nonpayment of rent.
