Butternuts Beer and Ale was founded in 2005 in Garrattsville, New York by Ann and Charles Williamson. Charls had been a brewer for seven years at breweries in Long Island and New York City when the couple was convinced to leave the city by the events of 9/11. In 2011, the company purchased nearby Cooperstown Brewery, but later sold that company to Northern Eagle Beverages in 2014.
