Cisk beer was first brewed in 1929 by the Marquis John Scicluna, who opened the Malta Export Brewery, in Hamrun, Malta. It was preceded by Simonds Farsons Ltd, who had started brewing only a few months earlier. Simonds Farsons was granted the exclusive license to brew ales, while Fisk could only brew lagers. In 1948, the two breweries merged to form Simonds Farsons Cisk Ltd.
