Colbitzer Heide Brauerei was founded in Colbitz, Germany in 1872 by Friedrich-Christoph Ritter. It remained family owned until 1959, when it was taken over by the East German government. The company reverted back to Ritter’s great-grandchildren, Barbara Schreiter and Klaus Niemer, in 1991, but by 2012 it was bankrupt. The following year, it was purchase by Hofbrauhaus Wolters GmbH. In 2020, that company was purchased by German bank Volksbank BRAWO eG.
