Craft By Side Hustle was founded in 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates by Balmaghie Beverage Group. Balmaghie was founded in 2018 by Chad McGehee, an immigrant from Louisiana who moved to the UAE in 2004 as an employee of IBM. Disappointed by the lack of beer options in the country, he teamed up with investors to begin brewing beer in Pennsylvania for distribution to the UAE, as domestic production was illegal at the time. However a little-noticed rule change in 2021 allowed licensees to begin making beer for sale on site, and in 2023 Craft by Side Hustle was born.
