In 1996 it merged with three other breweries to become Unión de Cervecerías Peruanas Backus y Johnston SAA. In 2005, SABMiller purchased the company, and in 2016 SABMiller was purchased by Anheuser-Busch InBev. Due to antitrust regulations, however, the brand was separated from AB InBev in the United States, and there it is sold by Molson Coors.
