Crux Fermentation Project was created in 2012 in Bend, Oregon by Larry Sidor, Dave Wilson, and Paul Evers. Sidor was previously the operations manager and brewmaster at Olympia Brewing, where he became disillusioned with marketing-driven breweries who wanted to sell thin, watery beer.He later became the brewmaster at Deschutes Brewery, where he won numerous awards for his brews. Wilson had been a sales executive at Deschutes with Sidor, as well as at 21st Amendment Brewery, while Evers owned a branding agency called tbd.

The brewery’s original location was built out of a renovated AAMCO Transmission shop. The team looked at over 50 locations around Bend before settling on their propery. Crux added to its portfolio with the addition of a production brewery on the north side of Bend in 2015. They completed a large taproom expansion in 2018, with increased indoor and outdoor capacity. In 2022, Sidor stepped away from the day-to-day operations at the business, handing over brewing operations to Cam O’Conner. Though Sidor has retired, he has retained his ownership stake in the business.
