Escudo Beer was created by Compañía de Cervecerías Unidas in 1942 in Santiago, Chile. The brand, which means “Shield” in Spanish, has become one of the most popular in the country. Heineken has a minority stake in CCU, owning 50% of the investment firm IRSA, which in turn owns nearly 66% of CCU. The remaining shares are listed on the Chilean and New York stock exchanges.
