Gilde Brauerei was founded in 1546 in Hanover, Germany as a guild of local brewers. In 1609, it became recognized as a legal entity, and existed as a cooperative until 1868, when it was converted into a corporation. In 1925, it purchased the Lindener Aktien Brauerei, and later changed its name to Lindener Gilde-Brau AG in 1968 to reflect the merger.

In 2003, the company was acquired by Interbrew, which merged with Brazilian brewer AmBev to become InBev the following year. In 2008, InBev acquired Anheuser-Busch and became Anheuser-Busch InBev. However, in 2016, that company purchased SABMiller, and had to sell off several of its European assets to satisfy regulators. That year, AB InBev sold the Gilde brand to TCB Beverages, owned by Mike Gärtner and Karsten Uhlmann. In 2022 the company entered the US market with a Gilde brewery in Charlotte, North Carolina.
