Gizmo Brew Works was founded in 2013 in Raleigh, North Carolina by Brian Shaw, Bryan Williams, Jeffrey Sgroi, and Elizabeth Morgan. The owners were all engineers who had worked in the businesses surrounding Roth Brewing, which previously occupied the space. Since they were regulars at the brewery, they didn’t want to see it close, and when Roth shut down, they stepped into purchase the company. The brewery started off small at first, and were consistently running out of beer, but they slowly expanded their brewing capacity as their reputation grew within the community. In 2020, they opened a second location in Chapel Hill, taking over the location of the former Ramshead Rathskeller restaurant, followed by a third location in Durham, North Carolina.
