Great Basin Brewing Company was founded in Sparks, Nevada in 1993 by Tom Young and Eric McClary. The pair were among a group of brewery founders that lobbied the state to allow brewpubs, and after a successful campaign they opened their first location. In 2010 the company expanded to a second location in Reno, which was later followed by locations in Carson City and Minden.
In 2021, Great Basin Brewing was sold to Local Food Group, the restaurant group of chef and restaurateur Mark Estee.
