Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company was created in 2015 in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts by Paul Wengender. Wengender has a background in microbial geneology, and wanted to create a brewery that was focused on high-alcohol beers. However, they have since expanded to produce a line of lower-ABV beers called the Soul Purpose series. In 2018, the brewery opened a Brewery & Taproom in Worcester. The brewery also has a focus on positive social impact, and donates a portion of their proceeds to non-profit partners.
In 2022, they hired Colleen Quinn, formerly the Director of Strategy for the Brewers Collective segment of Anheuser-Busch InBev, as their new CEO. Quinn stated that her ambition for the brewery is to achieve a 50% share of the high-ABV market. Greater Good now distributes their beer to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York, and Pennsylvania.
