Happy Dad Hard Seltzer was created in 2021 by Minhas Craft Brewery in collaboration with Sam Shahidi, John Shahidi and Kyle Forgeard. The three are also the hosts of the Full Send podcast, and the YouTube channel Nelk, which is popular amongst college-aged men. The company has leveraged that popularity by incorporating the Happy Dad product into their appearances and shows, and in doing so has quickly become one of the most popular hard seltzers in the United States. In 2023, Happy Dad had become one of the top 5 hard seltzers in the country, according to IRI scan data.

Still, the founders have faced criticism for their support of Donald Trump, including having him appear on their podcast in March of 2022. On that episode, Trump promoted lies about the 2020 election, which later caused YouTube to remove the episode from its platform.

The seltzers are produced and packaged by Minhas Craft Brewery in Monroe, Wisconsin, which also takes an active role in the sales, distribution, and marketing of the product. Minhas also owns several other brands, including Boxer Beer and Axehead Malt Liquor. Like Forgeard, the Minhas siblings are originally from Canada.

Sam Shahidi’s brother, John Shahidi, acts as CEO for the venture. The two brothers are also the founders of the Shots Podcast Network, which hosts the Full Send Podcast. John Shahidi is also a major investor in Twitter, and acts as an advisor to Elon Musk since the site was taken over by him. He also has invested heavily in NFTs and created the Metacard NFT, which has lost nearly 95% of its value since its creation.
