Highlander Beer was first brewed in 1910 by Missoula Brewing Company in Missoula, Montana. The company, founded by Joseph Wagner in 1890, first used the name after getting permission from the New York Highlanders baseball team, which later became the New York Yankees. The brand went defunct in 1964, and in 2008 Bob Lukes revived the company and began brewing the beer through contract at Great Northern Brewing Company in nearby Whitefish. In 2015, the company opened its doors with a new brewery of their own in Missoula.
