Lāčplēsis beer was first brewed in 1948 on a collective farm in Lielvārde, Latvia. The name of the beer comes from the national epic poem of Latvia, and means “bear slayer.” In 2004, it was acquired by Danish brewery Bryggerigruppen, which was renamed Royal Unibrew in 2005.
