Lahden Erikois was first created in 1932 by Mallasjuoma Brewery in Lahti, Finland. With the end of Finnish prohibition that year, the brewery was now able to make beer higher than 2.25% ABV. In 1988, Mallasjuoma was bought by leading Finnish brewery Hartwall, who shelved the brand. In 2002, Hartwall was purchased by Scottish & Newcastle, which was sold to Heineken and Carlsberg in 2008, with the two breweries splitting up their brands. Heineken acquired Hartwall’s assets, which it held until 2013 when it sold them to Royal Unibrew for €470 million. Royal Unibrew then reintroduced the brand in 2017.
