Website

Lakefront Brewery was created in 1987 in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin by brothers Russ and Jim Klisch. In 1996 they became the first certified organic brewery in the country. The brewery worked off of hobbled together homebrew equipment at first, but in 1998 they purchased a new location from the City of Milwaukee, a former power station once occupied by the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company. Soon, the old brewing equipment was replaced with a new system.

The brewery has a commitment to sustainability, and claims to be the first brewery in the United States to brew their beer with entirely in-state grown ingredients. In 2020, they were certified as a B corp, demonstrating a commitment to good governance, worker protections, community, environment, and customer stewardship. Their brewery tour is one of the most popular in the United States, with over 80,000 patrons a year, and their beer is now distributed to 30 different states, as well as Ukraine, South Korea, Sweden, China and Canada.
